My vote is that Robert B. Reich should play Miles Vorkosigan. He's 4' 10.5," (just about EXACTLY Miles' height) smart as a whip, and charismatic as all get out.

Alas, he's probably too old.

We'd probably have to Hobbitize whoever played Miles....unfortunately.

I'm not totally certain about his acting chops, because I only saw him in Narnia, but maybe we could use Skandar Keynes for young Miles in a year or two, as he's sixteen now. He's got the dark hair and I think he could do charming, manipulative, slightly crazy, and loyal all at the same time. :) Also, he should be smart, because he's the great-great-grandson of Charles Darwin and the great-nephew of John Maynard Keynes.

Frances MacDormand for Cordelia. But my boyfriend says she's not elegant enough so for a second choice, Connie Nielsen based on her turn in Gladiator. (She's a little young to be 53, but Betans look younger anyway.)

I came up empty for Bothari but my boyfriend suggested Clancy Brown. (He plays Captain Byron T. Hadley in Shawshank and has a pretty distinctive voice acting career as well.)

That's a heck of a pedigree!

Actually, I think I forgot to add a great to each of those, but he's still related. :)

I always thought Walter Koenig (mostly from his performance as Bester on Babylon 5) would make a great Miles. Alas, he is probably too old now, too.

I love Robert Reich! He's a great interview, and has a great sense of humor, especially about being short. I saw him on Leno dancing with Laura Prepon ('Donna' on That 70s Show; she's about 6' tall and was wearing heels) and it was hilarious.

That being said, I've never read the book. Whoops! :)

In a silly moment, I said: "Michael J. Fox" for Miles. They'd just cast big guys in the other parts, and he can handle the range.

But again -- he's probably too old (except that Miles was born old, and got younger when he found Ekaterin...)

I haven't seen anything Peter Dinklage (http://imdb.com/name/nm0227759/) is in, but I'm told he's a good actor, and I think he can clearly do dark and intense. He's shorter than Miles, but I don't think that's a major problem. He is getting old to be playing Miles at 17, to be sure.
