Happy solstice, everybody! This is the day that Peg looks forward to every year: the most light! Hours of sunlight to help keep Peg happy and centered.

I try not to let myself contemplate too long the fact that it's all downhill from here.

[livejournal.com profile] malinaldarose has been griping about offices that keep the air conditioner too high. My firm does this, too, and it's irksome. But I have developed a solution: I have developed the happy habit of bringing a sarong to work every day. They are cheap, bright enough to lift the spirits, light enough that I don't feel smothered, but they really help to keep the air conditioner chill at bay.

I have a polarfleece cloak that I keep at work. Since the library does not heat/cool evenly, I have to be able to adjust.

I thought of you when I was reading my series of eco-geekery blogs this morning and was pointed to this entry about an Earth Picnic idea for Summer Solstice (http://littlebloginthebigwoods.blogspot.com/2007/05/earth-lent-and-planet-picnic.html). If I'd seen it sooner, I would have organized something. As it is, I'm sketching out ideas for a town-wide longest-day celebration next year...

Happy SUnshine to you!

The railroad (I commute via the infamous Long Island Rail Road) is really horrible with AC. It seems to have only two settings: Cool, and Meat Locker. In the height of summer I always have a large wrap with me, because otherwise I'd be a popsicle by the end of the trip.

I had a hooded sweatshirt that I used to wear at work. I didn't understand the women who wore sundresses and complained about it being hot in there, since I swear it was around 62 degrees F all year round. I'm also fairly certain that working in a freezing cold building has permanently messed up my ideas of what is hot and what is cold; I'm usually freezing even in 70-degree weather. Of course, that doesn't really make sense that I'd always be cold when it's warmer out . . . but that's what I'm blaming. :)

And happy solstice to you!

Pity the poor vampire. Tonight, the vampire children have little time to romp and frolic. Oh woe!

I (a non-udead type) made a point of walking around outside last night about 9:30pm. Not only was it still light (though fading), but there was a gorgeous lightening storm behind the clouds. Few lightening bolts but lots of back lighting and no rain!

I generally like the temperature cooler than most, so the AC would have to be awfully high to bug me. It's happened, but almost always I'm the last one to complain.

Happy Midsummer!

Ummm... I have to admit, I'm one of those people who thrives on air conditioning and hails the first chill of autumn with glee, at least when the weather is icky-hot like it's been for most of the past week. ;-) I get driven nuts in winter, when easily-chilled people are cranking the heat to 85 degrees.

I do like summer. I just don't like extreme heat and humidity. Heat makes me sluggish and drowsy. 70 degrees with a slight breeze and lots of sunshine, with a lake rippling in the background, is Perfect Summer to me. Wish it could be like that year-round... but then I'd miss the turning of the seasons.

Air conditioning is one of the main things I rant about in the summer. I HATE the cold, always have, and I live in freakin' Canada! It's bad enough that I have to freeze six months out of the year because of the weather, but it really ticks me off that I freeze all summer as well because so many people who control the air conditioning are not happy unless there is frost on the inside of the their windows.

GRRRR!
