Upgrading iTunes

pegkerrI have iTunes version 7.1.1. I understand that they are up to 7.3.2. I am interested in upgrading because I want to be able to download the DRM-free versions of song, but I've heard that people can have troubles with synching their iPods with the later version, so I am hesitant to do so. Comments, anyone? Is there anything I should do before I upgrade?
