Painting project

The bookcases, out in the garage, have been coated with two coats of green paint.
The walls of the girls' room has been changed from peach to a light lavender. It's truly a beautiful color. When the morning sun hits it, Delia says, "it looks like a wisp of cloud." Or the heart of a light amethyst.
We'll have to decide whether to the give the walls a second coat or not. And then we have to paint the windows and baseboard (green, to match the bookcases), and those will take at least two coats, too. (I was a little doubtful about the combination of lavender and green, but it's what they wanted, and hey, it's their room. And I have to admit that the colors are both lovely individually. I'll be curious to see what they look like together.) Then we have to pull the bunkbeds apart and try to figure out how to rejigger the furniture to fit. I have a strong hunch that we still have to remove at least one of the dressers. The rocker will probably go, too, to be replaced by some kind of chair that we still need to acquire. I'll miss that old rocker. We've spent many a happy hour cuddled in it with girls on the lap, reading books aloud. (A gift from my brother and sister-in-law when Fiona was born. Hey, thanks again! We got terrific use out of it!)
It'll probably be a week at least before the room is pulled back together (and longer yet for my office to be restored to its former state). Hard to do this during the busy first week of school. The girls are sleeping in the living room for now. They're young enough that they find this charming rather than an annoyance.
I hope that the room will be worth all this work. Oy.
Reworking the room like this is tangible proof that the girls are growing up. And while I'm pleased that they're entering this new stage, it makes me a little sad, too.

Date: 2007-09-05 01:29 am (UTC)BTW... as you are applying second coats, I have read (and heard, but never tried) that if you wrap your wet (with paint) brushes in foil and pop in the freezer overnight it will save you the time of having to wash them out each night.
Really don't know if this works or not. But I DO know that washing out brushes is a pain. And takes much longer than it seems it should.
ANyway...
take with a grain of salt.
