To L. (female): Lady, you don't know how good you are. Not only are you built like a brick house, but you know how to use it. What power! But it's okay to hit things, really. You don't have to make comic apologetic faces every time you kick or hit the pad.

To K. (male): Wow, I really admire you. Of course, you can't help that you're built like a beanpole, but you really know how to use that height. Flexible and powerful, too. It's a joy to watch you in class.

To M. (male): There, there. You'll get better soon. Just keep trying. And you need to yell more.

To C. (female): You are definitely not as cute as you think you are. The smart-ass questions to sensei are not appreciated. I think you are trying to be flirtatious, but it isn't working. Just stop it.

These sound like they would be applicable to many groups outside karate class.

And I'm amused that you immediately knew who C. was. Did you recognize all of them?

Cool. It's been months since there's been an over-18 student in class with me. The beanpole kids *are* amazing. There's a girl in class that can kick well over her head and it looks like dance. There's a kid that can't even weigh 130 pounds who bruised my stomach when he kicked the 8" thick body shield I was holding and drove my own fist into my stomach. I was mightily impressed.

I have a hard time getting the smaller kids to go ahead and make contact with me, because I'm a geezer I guess. But the teens are a joy to spar with; it's a priviledge to get well and truly owned by someone with great talent.

I'm not sure if you've been around my journal long enough to see this picture of Delia.

Not to mention this one.

I used to be almost that flexible, when I was her age. I'm working very hard to get some of it back, but it's very uphill work.

I get 403 forbidden on the first one.
Tom is actually fond of doing that pose in the 2nd one. He's actually even more flexible than that, but he's younger too. I'm sure he'll lose most of it.

The flirtatious female in the martial arts class always drives me crazy. I tend to pick arts that self-select against that sort of behavior, but every once in a while one wanders in. "Don't flirt with the sensei" should be a cardinal rule right up with "Don't go easy on me just because I'm a girl."
