Like [livejournal.com profile] sleigh, I managed to get signed up on the American Family Association's action alert e-mail list. I did this by answering one of their surveys, in which they asked people to send their support to Congress for being bigots opposition to civil rights for gays. I voted "No." It's extremely interesting to get their alerts, in a squicky kind of way, because it gives an insight into the Christian Right's thinking. I am indebted to them today for alerting me to an upcoming vote in the House this week on ENDA, the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (H.R. 2015), would make it illegal to fire, refuse to hire, or refuse to promote an employee based on his sexual orientation or "gender identity." High time for this to be passed, don't you think? AFA raved in their action alert about how this would offer "special privileges" to a group that is not disadvantaged and would not offer enough of a religious exemption.

Horse puckey.

I'll call my Congressman today to offer support for ENDA. You should, too.

Hey, thanks for the action alert, AFA!

Thanks for reminding me. I get the AFA newsletter as well, mainly so I can pass on what they're up to to Chris, and so he can make fun of 'em on his podcast.

I loved their recent pontification about sleazy advertising, but yet they were runnng an anti-cellulite ad which featured a nice lady's butt next to the AFA's founder's face...
