I tried to go to sleep, but the coughing made it impossible. I just went to make another pot of tea to try to squelch the coughing. I filled up my metal tea kettle--and then went to put it into the microwave to heat it up instead of on the stove. Fortunately, I came to my senses before I pushed "start."

Yep. Absolutely no brain tonight.

(Lurker unlurks.) The cough that never stops, hurts the throat, strangles the voice, and produces only clear liquidy mucous except when it produces phlegm-- is what I had several times a year for ten years and always thought was bronchitis. Finally diagnosed by a (*googles spelling*) otolaryngologist as chronic sinusitis and post-nasal drip; was brought to heel by nasonex and sinus irrigation. You may want to check that possibility out as well.
