I am one of Hilary's friends and I got to the link thru her friends page, but I have one piece of advice. Balance the checkbook by hand and save some time. You are doing double entry and you increase the chance for transferring errors. I have never figured out why people keep paper and computer registers, that's extra work. I have always kept my paper register and it takes me 5 min max to balance out each month. I have caught subtraction errors in the register, but luckily not any that were crucial. Hope you got your pumpkin. You are not alone, my office is a mess in general at work and at home, I live with a 6 yo tornado who does not understand that the floor is not a repository for various crap. Good luck
