I've been listening to this one over and over. It's really a rather wistfully sweet (and funny) love song. Considering that the singer is an evil homicidal genius.

Jonathan Coulton sings "Skullcrusher Mountain."

I love Jonathan's music (you may remember his other song I've talked about, "Code Monkey"). You can download this particular song for free from Jonathan's website here (although he does welcome paypal donations.)

See his other music available, some for free and some for a dollar a song, here.

Oh, and props to [livejournal.com profile] kijjohnson for introducing him to me.

What I like most about this song is the juxtaposition of the really sweet harmony and bits of the lyrics "I'm so into you, but I'm way too smart for you" is just a hummable pop-song ... with the rest of the creepy-funny-weird story in between.

I also like "My millionaire girlfriend" for the punchline zing - and the amazingly sweet melody.

I really love this song, and there's something really, really catchy about it. Not to mention it's strangely soothing--I was singing it to the cat the other day, and there's something about the usual "romantic" song chords set with these lyrics that make it so smooth.

And have you seen the shirts? With the pony lyric on it? \o/

I've been saving up for one of those Skullcrusher Mountain shirts for a while. Oh yes, it will be mine.

BTW, a helpful link for people who want to get a good taste of Jonathan Coulton is his collection on The Sixty One, if only because there's a nice little playlist all laid out for the listener.

My favourite JoCo song at the moment is "Still Alive." Since it's from a video game it sort of makes no sense out of context, but it's just awesome: a girl singing about science, cake and being passive-aggressive. What more could you ask for? :D

Have you seen the beautiful yet disturbing video of Still Alive that VGCats did?

Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you?

I love that song.

I am also very partial to "Mandelbrot Set," which is a happy little song about math (and I don't even like math), and "I'm Your Moon," a love song from Charon to Pluto (written after Pluto got deplaneted).

One excellent thing about Jonathan Coulton's songs is that you don't need context to enjoy them, and sometimes the context hits you in the head a week later. "I'm Your Moon" was just a nice, if sad, love song for a few days, then I realized that it was so much better. There was an entire other layer there.
