Jace of Catchlove and Christian of Oliver Boyd & the Remembralls have teamed up as the duo Talons & Tea Leaves. I just dropped Jace an email asking about the whereabouts of a CD I'd ordered from him, and I mentioned in passing that I was hoping that they'd make the Talons & Tea Leaves song "Hallelujah" downloadable. He was a little embarrassed about the CD being late, and so just because I asked, he made all the songs on the Talons & Tea Leaves page downloadable. Hurrah.

Grab them.

I feel like an idiot, but I'm not seeing where to download things. All I see on their page are links to their wrock friends, a mention of who their group is, and comments from other people. What am I doing wrong?

Don't feel silly; I just haven't mentioned that alas, the hitch is that now you have to have a MySpace account. This is a rather recent change, within the last three months or so--you used to be able to be able to download songs without having a MySpace account, but not anymore. It's free at least, so I finally bit the bullet and signed up after avoiding doing so for years; I just use the pegkerr account on MySpace to download wizard rock. Once you have an account and you've logged in, you just click on the "download" link under each song on the player near the top of the page (that is, if the musician have set the song to be downloadable; not all of them do).

In general, many of the wizard rock groups on MySpace might have one or two of the songs they have on their MySpace pages set as downloadable at any one time (out of the four or five songs they have listed in total). As they get a little more professional and become interested in actually selling their music, they may take the downloadable-for-free songs away and instead offer CDs for sale, or they may sell the songs through a service like Snocap. Some, however, will keep one or two songs for free even as they are selling music (examples of bands who operate like that are Harry and the Potters and the Whomping Willows).

Anyway, if you like wizard rock like me, I think it's worth signing up for MySpace, even if you never post there. It's free, and you can use the account to keep track of the bands as they post new stuff.

Hope this helps.

So, did you have a chance to listen, and what did you think?

They sounded like better-than-usual filkers--the magic is usually in performance for me, for this level of filkers. I'd love to hear them in concert.
