I spent some time hunting all around the office for a yardstick so that I could go down to the office gym and practice my bo (stick fighting) form.

I couldn't find one.

It's rather amusing how frustrating I found this to be.

Broomstick. Okay, it's off balance, but hey, any port in a storm. --Not that you probably have any of those, either.

Hope your day is going well.

How do you like doing bo form? I've never had any kind of martial arts instruction, but I really like Tai Chi and I've always been fascinated by the look and feel of a bo.

Well, I'm just getting started at it. I'm still terribly clumsy, forever whacking myself with it, and I don't have enough of the form memorized. But I like doing it so far.

Here's a video of Fiona doing the discovery form, which is a more advanced one than the one I'm doing.

Stick fighting?

I thought karate meant "empty hand" in Japanese.

I think that's true. What we practice is a hybrid style which is heavily influenced by Tae Kwon Do. We have several weapons, starting with the bo when you are an intermediate belt. Then when you are a black belt you start with sickle weapons (I think they are called num chuks???)

Here is a video of Fiona doing a bo form. This is the discovery form, which is more advanced than the one I am currently learning.
