Oh, LiveJournal, repository of the sum of all human knowledge.

Please leave me a comment letting me know of anywhere in the twin cities (or no farther than an hour's drive outside) where I can do a personal retreat, with an opening sometime in the next two weeks. Cost is a factor: I'm hoping to keep this under $50 a night, including meals. I want someplace where I can go and be quiet for, oh, about three days. Draw, pray, think, cry, be quiet. I will not rule out facilities that offer religious retreats, although that won't be my primary focus.

My need is rather pressing. I would be grateful for any guidance or recommendations you might be able to give.

I love WEI (http://w-e-i.org/retreat). They are about an hour away, some of the rooms are as cheap as $60/night, and it's a beautiful, peaceful space. I think they also serve you breakfast. I don't know about availability, but they should be able to tell you with a quick phone call. You might also ask them if they can cut you any kind of deal - they are pretty understanding people.

Being from California and all, I'm not up on what's close to you, but I got that URL from http://www.stpaulsmonastery.org/7-benedictine-center/retreatsonmyown.html

I did a search on Minnesota monasteries and got so many hits I'd no idea where to look.

I hope you find the peace you need soon.

It's not a quiet retreat, but I was thinking the other day - maybe time to do another shout-out to see if anyone would take you out for dinner and/or drinks (or even coffee and music), as a short-term distraction?

*frustrated yet again at being 1500 miles away*

The one I've been really wanting to try is Clare's Well

http://www.fslf.org/clareswell.html

Franciscan based, but my understanding (both from their pages, and from a couple of acquaintances familiar with it) is that there's no particular religious obligation or expectation.

It's just about an hour by Google Maps, and $50 a night includes 3 meals. Labyrinth, walking paths, sauna. (The one note is that there's no running water in the actual retreat houses, but is in their wellness center.)

Too far away to help you with this, but I want to say that I'm glad you're doing it, and wish you peace with it.
