Re-entry has been somewhat rocky.

I thought of you often while you were away. I'm glad the retreat itself was what you needed, even if coming back wasn't so easy.

Here's a tree story I meant to send earlier.

I go to a local prison to a meditation/Buddhist group. There was a man in it for several years with HIV. A couple of weeks ago he reached the end and went to the hospital, where I tried to see him but couldn't get in. I was walking and came to a huge oak, putting out new leaves. I knew then that I could touch the oak and send its peace and strength to Vincent as he lay dying, so I did. I leaned against its soaring trunk and I know I felt it vibrate as its power streamed out to him.

Every time I would go to a quaker event while I was in HS, I'd have a wonderful, nearly-transcendent time there, come back practically floating on air...and then get into enormous, like, house-shaking arguments with my brothers nearly instantly. I don't know why--they certainly weren't any more annoying than usual, but I think retreats and things like that lower your resistance, and you lose all the usual defenses against not taking things personally and the like.
