It is dark gray and snowing hard outside my window. It's March 31st! Five to seven inches are expected. This is absolutely unacceptable.

As I saw remarked in [livejournal.com profile] metaquotes this week (quoting [livejournal.com profile] cjtremlett) if spring happens when Persephone leaves the underworld, Persephone and Hades must be having great sex this year.

Persephone, you brazen hussy, get out of bed--no, I don't care what he's doing to you and how good it feels, and I don't want to hear about his tongue and exactly where he's putting it--get your shameless little arse up here above ground, and get the spring started. Enough, already.

You can't eat until you get up here anyway. Aren't you getting hungry by now?

I think we have lost the correct invocation to summon Persephone from the underworld, and it's probably in Greek anyway.

I think it's really interesting how a Greek myth in which Persephone is in Hades during the unbearable summer has become a modern myth where she's away during the unbearable winter.

It's snowing here too. But the light is coming back.

Around here, she keeps getting up, putting on her robe, thinking about starting to make breakfast - and then, paf! he grabs her by the hand, she giggles, he nibbles, she squeaks, and back to bed they go.

*wistful sigh*

Loved this post, Peg!

Two kids in MiniPlu's class got into a fight last week. The girl insisted it was spring (because, technically it is). The boy insisted it was still winter. They duked it out until she said, "It's spring because my mommy said so" and he called her mother a liar and got into major trouble with the teacher. :P I had to explain to MiniPlu (who was retelling the story) that even though the boy hadn't acted right, I could understand why he would still think it's winter. Brrr.

We're not due for snow (though there's a chance for some minor sleet with the rain) but I sure as hell am ready for it to be warmer, flowerier, and, well, properly spring, dammit.

I recognize the quote in your userpic, but not the man. Is there a new adaptation?

No; I just think Leslie Howard would have made a beautiful Peter Wimsey. [livejournal.com profile] mswyrr is responsible for the icons.

I recently (mostly at Minicon, now that I think about it) read Cybermancy, Kelly McCollough's most recent book1. It has a much darker take on the Persephone myth. But it was a lot of fun!

1 - and I've just discovered that there's a third Ravirn book coming out in two months. I'll have to pick it up!
