Dear Mr. and Mrs. ___________Note: That's IPS as in:
In reviewing last year's income tax forms, we found your forms were incomplete, and therefore you are subject to an internal audit: Under miscellaneous expenses (Item 65c on your return), you failed to report the amount of allowance paid to your children.
In 2002, Congress voted that all U.S. citizens who pay their children an allowance of no less than $100 per week will be exempt from all income taxes. Those that pay less--or worse, pay nothing at all (or leave the space blank, as in your case)--are not just cheapskates, but they won't be winning the "Parents of the Year" Award anytime soon!
To avoid prosecution, and perhaps public ridicule, pull out your wallet and immediately pass the nearest of your children a crisp $20 bill. That should clear up this little misunderstanding.
Happy April Fools' Day
Your local IPS agents.
