I passed the test

and now I have my brown stripe belt. The next one is the big one--brown belt.

It was a very abbreviated test, since it was a makeup test. No sparring, no self-defense. But I really gave it my all, and I did the form from memory, even though technically I don't have to do that until my next test. I worked really hard, lots of intensity, and I was pretty pleased with myself when the test was done. And, thank heavens, I managed to scrape out of my memory the meaning of the name of my form when pazlazuli asked me--"Begin the Mission"--so I avoided embarrassment that way.

Aside: Fiona is on her way back from Mexico and we'll go pick her up this afternoon.

Since it was a makeup test, were you all alone? (I always found it harder when I was the only one testing.)

There were seven of us. I was the senior belt. I was the only one doing my particular form, which was a little-nervewracking, but I got through it okay. pazlazuli said it looked good, but I just need to work on precision on getting the folds in. I also to need to work more on yelling from my gut rather than my throat (I sorta blew my voice out; I yelled so loudly).

She did well, although they did give her some corrective notes. We are still waiting to get confirmation that she's being invited back to the second screening. Keep your fingers crossed!

Which you probably can't do, but would probably like to. Testing is exhausting.

Just out of curiosity - how could you do a form without memorizing it? Do they have teleprompters?

Sensei will shout out the moves: "Brush block! X-strike! Chop, pull down! Shuffle sudo block, kick, jab!" etc. For me, she just said, "Go!" and I did the whole thing without the prompts.

The forms, of course, get more complicated the further you advance, and you work on them through several belts. I will continue working on this form until I pass black belt.
