[livejournal.com profile] kijjohnson and I have had so much fun with soulcollaging that we've decided to set up a community! The two of us will be co-maintainers. Stop by and friend [livejournal.com profile] soulcollaging and post pictures of your cards and ask questions. I'll still cross-post here on the topic, but I'm hoping to get a group of like-minded people going with a community. Wish us luck! Drop a comment if you have any questions.

I've got a pile of magazines for you. Shall I bring them to the Minnstf meeting on Saturday?

That might work . . . I'm going to be arranging to be picking up some magazines from [livejournal.com profile] cakmpls sometime this weekend, too. Where is the meeting being held, do you know?

I guess somewhere along the way I missed the description of exactly what you mean by soulcollaging. I have an inkling, based on what you did while you were on your retreat, but how exactly does it work?

If I should post this over there, let me know!

SoulCollaging is an artistic process described by Seena Frost in her book SoulCollage: An Intuitive Collage Process for Individuals and Groups. SoulCollage cards are made by gluing collages on pieces of stiff paper or heavy cardstock or better yet, cut up pieces of matboard. The size she suggests is 5" x 8". You can make as few or as many cards as you like, but each set of cards has at least four suits, and one card that stands by itself (the Source card) but she says you can certainly make more suits if you like, personal to you. It's an infinitely flexible system.

The suits are:

The Committee Suit: your own internal voices. Examples: the shy one, the teacher, the inner critic, the caretaker, the judge, the happy child...
The Community Suit: those beings in your life who support you. Examples: your spouse/lover, your friends, siblings, parents, an author who has touched your life, current or past pets, ancestors. I will certainly be making a card to honor LiveJournal.
The Companions Suit a companion animal, one for each of the seven chakras. Examples: wolf, octopus, eagle, skunk, dragon, squirrel, dolphin, bear, honeybee, otter...
The Council Suit: Dream figures and archetypes who guide you in your daily life, or who have guided you in the past, or those you wish to receive guidance from in the future. The True King, the Shaman, the Healer, Death, the Great Mother, the Witch, the Trickster, etc. May include tarot images (I've already made a Fool card and a Strength card, based on the traditional imagery of a woman and a lion). I've added a Mirror of Erised card to this suit, too.
The Source Card: The card which represents That from which all other things spring. You may call it The One, or God, or whatever you like.

Once you've created a card, you describe it, using the "I am the one who . . ." exercise, thus personalizing the meaning of the card.

You can use your SoulCollage deck rather like your own very personalized tarot deck, or you can use it as a therapeutic/meditative tool or a tool to tap into your own creativity. Seena Frost was combining her studies in spirituality, creativity and psychology when she came up with the concept. People gather in groups to create cards together, and to show them off to each other, and perhaps help each other interpret them.

Hope that answers your questions.

Here's a site where someone posted a slide show of their soulcollage deck, over a hundred cards; it'll give you a good idea of what a person can do with SoulCollage. I have found it to be an awful lot of fun, and very creative.
