Road Warrior
May. 6th, 2008 07:26 pmMy nerves are just shattered. I just got home after battling traffic for two and a half hours. Took Fiona to the dentist, then beat my way through pouring rain and road construction to Delia's Girl Scout trip to the clay center, which took an hour and a half. I went off the highway at one point to grab the girls dinner, not realizing the on-ramp back onto the highway was closed because of the construction. Getting back on the highway, with the detour took a half an hour, during which I had great difficulty refraining from screams of anguish. Then a "quick" swing by the post office to mail a package took another half hour.
Am about to get into the car to go to the dojo for my lesson. Which is good, because I really need to hit something.
Then I have to clean the dojo.

Date: 2008-05-07 01:49 pm (UTC)Btw, with regards to the other posts, I don't think you're a fool at all. I, too, would have been totally taken in by that. It was very subtle satire and I hate that, just like deadpan - I fall for it every time.
*hugs* Hope today is better, all around.

Date: 2008-05-07 03:38 pm (UTC)Don't be too hard on yourself regarding the Harvard post- it looks like the writer of the first article viewed it in the same way, which really set the tone of your interpretation of the situation. Honestly, I thought the opinion piece wasn't subtle satire, but just really poorly done satire. And so you (and me, and others) had a gut reaction to it, that's human. What ever generalizations you may have made about Ivy Leaguers, it certainly wasn't directed at each and everyone, just the ones that the reporter indicated were being jerks about JK Rowling. You did say 'if' that was the attitude, etc., etc. I really didn't think any of your expressed opinions were the least bit harsh, and you did say you were mistaken.
Anyway, today is a new day, and I hope you aren't too bruised from yesterday, physically or emotionally!!
