Interesting article here detailing some of the considerations for authors who are trying to decide whether or not to blog.

In case you haven't figured it out in the five or so years I've been blathering here, I rather like blogging. And it's pleasant that at least some of you seem to enjoy reading what I have to say.

I'm not sure of the date of this paper, on LiveJournal friends linking but the blog reference where I found it says it was done a "few years back."

Jane's birthday was Saturday. Rudyard Kipling wrote these lines in her honor:

Jane lies in Winchester--
Blessed be her shade!
Praise the Lord for making her,
And her for all she made!

And while the stones of Winchester,
Or Milsom Street, remain,
Glory, love, and honour
Unto England's Jane!

Jane is buried in Winchester, of course, and Milsom Street was (and still is) one of the fashionable shopping streets in Bath. Anne, Elizabeth, and Mrs. Clay in Persuasion are in Milsom Street when they duck into Molland's to escape the rain and Anne spots Captain Wentworth for the first time since the tragedy at Lyme.

In her honor, I have set up a feed to this blog, which every day publishes a quotation from her work, compiled by Lori Smith, author of A Walk with Jane (coming in September '07). Click on [livejournal.com profile] j_austen_quotes and add it to your friends page.

I adore LiveJournal because every day on my friends list I can read so many different things from so many parts of the world, like [livejournal.com profile] rezendi's description of his journey from China to Tibet by train. (The sleeping bunks come equipped with oxygen, natch.)

We are heading for Las Vegas today.

You can text message my cell phone if you need to reach me (I've enabled LJ text messaging).

I would certainly appreciate if someone could point me to some entry, somewhere, which translates geek-speak into something I can actually understand which will help me set up Jabber on my Mac. What client would you suggest--and where can I download it?

Thanks.

[livejournal.com profile] genealogygirl, I believe you said something about maybe hooking up for dinner tonight? Hope you see this. I'll try calling later today.

See you at Lumos. Will probably do some phone posts from the con.

I like A Novel Conundrum, and I may go back to it, but I'm playing with Flexible Squares, because I want to have links over to the side.

Is there a way to get my list of tags to display in this layout? Have been poking around the customization pages and am not finding it. Which layouts do support having a list of tags to the side?

See the White List here, maintained by [livejournal.com profile] archer904:

I just got my 20,000th comment to this LiveJournal.
pegkerr: (Pride would be folly that disdained help)
I know that you can set your friends page to display without communities by adding

?show=p

to the end of the URL, i.e.,

http://pegkerr.livejournal.com/friends/

becomes

http://pegkerr.livejournal.com/friends/?show=p

My question is, is there a URL string which shows nothing but the communities on your friends page?

Edited to add: [livejournal.com profile] zedmeister had the answer: it's http://pegkerr.livejournal.com/friends/?show=c

Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] zedmeister!

And [livejournal.com profile] heinous_bitca mentions that there is also ?show=Y to show feeds.
