Boy do I feel out of it - I didn't realize Delia had taken up cello! They look like they're having a great time.

A couple of years ago, now. It's been a bit rocky, because she hasn't had a teacher, just a volunteer coming in once a week to lead the school orchestra. She really needs to learn a lot about reading music.

We've hatched a plan to try to have my mom teach her long distance. My mom has played cello for seventy years, and still plays it in a community orchestra in Georgia. My parents are visiting up here in Minnesota, and Rob is taking my parents out to a computer store today to help them purchase a webcam, and to get one for our computer. The idea, if all goes well and my parents can figure out how to install the camera on their computer when they get home, is that they can hold lessons via webcam. We'll see if it works.

Hurrah, cello! Delia seems to have a great reach on her left hand; she must have long fingers. (The collapsing pinky on her right hand may become a problem, though.) She looks like she's enjoying herself thoroughly. Good for her!

I think the webcam lesson idea is fabulous. I hope it works out for them. Keep us posted!
