and see a doctor. It's a good thing I didn't test for my black stripe last weekend, I guess (I didn't know my form well enough). Merely going to class a week ago (Thursday) just about crippled me. The leg has definitely been worse this week--and I was walking with the cane a bit last weekend when going down the stairs. I've been going to the physical therapist at the sports medicine clinic, but I'd like some guidance as to whether this thing is just a sprain or something more serious.

What I did today to make the world a better place: I got into a friendly conversation at the coffee shop where I went to wait for Delia to finish her karate class. He asked my what I was reading that made me laugh (Barack Obama's account of some of the adjustments he had to make to married life in The Audacity of Hope), and we chatted for awhile. He's a caterer, and I ended up giving him my email address and telling him to send info on his business, and I'd pass it along to the woman who arranges for catering at my law firm.

Yep, have the leg get worse is one of those clear "time to see a doctor" signals.

Good luck!

I thought you'd already seen a doctor about it, before going over to PT?

Yes, I did. But she wasn't a specialist in sports injuries, and she gave me the name of someone who was. I haven't had X-rays or an MRI either (I'm still hoping to avoid an MRI, because they're SO expensive).
