For the maybe twenty of you out there who have read Emerald House Rising, I was listening to Sting's The Soul Cages the other day, and it occurred to me once again that there's a lyric on that album (Why should I Cry for You) that perfectly fits Captain Kett, thinking about Lady Rinnelle when he's out at sea and hardening his heart because he despairs that she'll never love him (if you ignore the earth-centric geographic references, of course).

It's kinda fun when you find a lyric that fits a work of fiction perfectly. And gee, if you know of any other song lyrics that fit characters or situations in my fiction, point them out to me, willya? Thanks.

Haven't read Emerald House Rising, but I just finished The Wild Swans, and I wanted to tell you how much I liked it! I've been reading your journal for a while, but only just now read it. Wow, I really should have done so earlier. I loved the parallel plotlines - especially how the ghosts in the graveyard were linked to the baths. You have a marvelous voice that makes your writing compelling, and real talent for involving the reader emotionally in the story. Like everyone else, I had a lump in my throat when Sean died. Peg, please don't doubt your talent as a writer. You write beautifully - don't give up. I am sure that your next book will be every bit as touching and thoughtful as The Wild Swans! :)
