I think I am going to ditch my relationship with TCF bank and go to a credit union.

I WAS with a credit union for a little while on one account--long story--and I was happy with them, but moved back to TCF bank because I had several accounts with them. But I'm angry enough at the new $10 a month fee on the TCF joint account because I don't move my money in and out enough to suit them. I'll be damned if I'm going to dance to their tune.

No, I'm happy with my bank and see no reason to change.

Mr. Creek and I have been banking with a credit union for a while now, and we LOVE them. We just refinanced our car loan (had been through a big bank since we originally financed it through the dealership) and the interest rate has been cut in half PLUS they took the time to go over some additional options with us that got us added benefits. I strongly encourage everyone to check out their local credit union options.

I was already planning on moving my money to a credit union, since this particular organization also does my auto insurance and I've been happy with them in the past. But recent events have made the transfer seem more urgent.

We switched a couple of weeks ago. Our bank got taken over by Chase several years ago, and they've just gotten worse and worse with the customer service and nickel-and-diming us and terrible money market interest rates, so we switched over to a local credit union which had handled a couple of auto loans for us.

Although BofA is now back-tracking and saying they won't charge for debit-card use after all, Will and I have decided we've had enough of banking "let's squeeze blood from a stone!" philosophies. We just need to find the time to GO to the credit union and get accounts opened, but we are planning to do it. Will has already closed his BofA-based credit card, which he's had since before he met me; he'd never cashed in any of the "points" he'd earned, so at least we managed to get a little cash back from that before he closed the account.

We plan to close our Large Bank accounts as soon as the mortgage through that bank is paid off (at current payment rate, it'll be within the next two years) and switch to the credit union where I already have most of my savings.
