Of course . . .
May. 5th, 2004 10:33 amif I'm going to spend that kind of money, I'd probably prefer to get an iPod.
Decisions, decisions. . .
Edited to add: Yeah, and I know I know I know that the iPod would be basically only for the music. But I'd love it.

Date: 2004-05-05 09:56 am (UTC)iPods are very cool, I admit - although I don't have one. However, if you have a computer that plays CDs or a portable CD player, then that works, too. iPods (weird to deliberately not capitalise the first thing in a sentence) seem a much greater use when you're away from electrical systems for awhile - commuting on trains, traveling, studying (or working) in cafes, etc.

Date: 2004-05-05 12:34 pm (UTC)The iPod is useless for carrying schedule and address information, isn't a good way to read an ebook, doesn't let you take notes you can easily transfer to your computer later. Those are all things I find very useful.
The iPod is useful for carrying bulk data between computers, and for playing music.
No doubt both are also useful for various (mostly different) other things that I haven't thought of just now.

Date: 2004-05-05 10:36 pm (UTC)I have never regretted a single penny. Here is every album I thought worth purchasing. Here are my ideosyncratic lists of songs I want to listen to, updated on whim. Here my hodgepodge collection is presented to me by artist, by album, by genre. If I can conceive of a song, I can play it.
There's usually some song running in a continual track on the subwoofer of my subconscious. Fiddler manifests my internal soundtrack.
w00t!
I don't yet own a PDA (even though I love gadgets). It's hard to do without something you've accustomed yourself to; it's like constantly feeling for a lost tooth. You probably are thinking to yourself every few hours, "I'll just put that in my ... no, wait, it died, :(."
I completely sympathize with your dilemma.
But Lord, the iPod is sublime.
Hope your choice includes both :),
Meredith
