So this morning, when Rob's alarm went off to get him up for work, it interrupted my dream, where I had deliberately left a laptop computer behind somewhere, knowing that it was going to explode. And someone was killed. I was hazy on why I did it. Some political reason. And the police were closing in on me, and I called my parents and said I needed to see them, and they said, oh, maybe tomorrow, because we're playing golf this afternoon, and I said, no, no, no, it's an emergency. I have to tell you something awful I've done, and you may never love me again. And then we have to find me a lawyer. And then the alarm woke me up.
And I dropped off to sleep again and immediately started dreaming that I was driving the girls somewhere and got carjacked, and the thief drove away with the girls still strapped into their car seats, screaming. And I knew I would never see them alive again.
I've been listening to the news too much lately.

Date: 2004-08-01 10:10 am (UTC)Of course NPR isn't nearly as bad as the local station (the NBC affiliate) that wants to make you think YOUR LIFE WILL BE IN DANGER IF YOU DO NOT WATCH OUR NEWS SHOW. They are definitely in the business of scaring the bejesus out of people. When we recently had flash-flooding in the suburbs the ads strongly implied that you could find yourself in a Johnstown-type situation if you DON'T WATCH OUR NEWS SHOW. And the same thing goes for their reports on the Fairmount Park Rapist and the Local Food Poisoning Danger and the Mold In Schools Crisis, and on and on...
