Found this site listed as the site of the day on one of my favorite sites, refdesk.com:

Writers on America
Choosing 15 writers who have attained a certain stature for their work, with the group as a whole reflecting the considerable diversity of American writing today, the U.S. State Department commissioned each to write an essay. The assignment: In what sense do you see yourself as an American writer? This site presents the essays.

I'll get to a more complete Minicon review later, but yowza, I wanted to post this link. One of the panelists at the convention was Phil Kaveny of Midwest Book Review, and I was interested in what he had to say on several panels. I decided to check out the site he mentioned, and discovered a treasure trove of resources for a working writer. See, for example, this page on Publicity and Promotion, and specifically, this list of online resources on Book Publicity/Marketing.

I'm going to make GREAT use of all the information here.

Cheers,
Peg

I had a great time. I really do enjoy conventions. I have friends who grouse that they don't have a good time at conventions, because it gets them off their writing schedule, and they get sick from the food, and their sleeping schedule gets out of whack. Well, sure, we're all delicate creatures as we're growing older, and we can't party on down the way we used to do. But I usually manage to enjoy myself thoroughly at conventions, and I did at this one.

Con report )

I emerged from the convention with scads of notes, a sleep deficit, a date to get together with Pat Wrede next Friday, a determination to read more poetry, an impressive list of books to add to my "must read" list, a pile of books purchased in the huckster's room to get me started, a fresh set of questions to consider while tackling my novel, and the memory of a lot of fine conversations.

Back to regular schedule (exercise, writing, etc.) tomorrow morning.

Cheers,
Peg

The Walk to Rivendell continues. As of yesterday, I've passed the 80 mile mark, which means I'm past the High Hay, and am now entering the Old Forest.
