If you'll remember, I had previously participated in the Eowyn Challenge, walking the entire length of Middle Earth, from Bag End to Mount Doom and back, logging over 4,100 miles.

What the heck. I've decided to go again.

Accordingly, I have started recording my mileage back again from scratch, starting January 1. As of today, I have logged a total of 54.9 miles, day 3 of the quest (September 25) and have just heard the cry of the Black Rider again. According to my WalkerTracker blog, I am averaging 11,302 steps a day.

Edited to add: By the way, here is a chart I created which gives the mileage totals of the various characters at various landmarks, which you may find useful if you decide to join me on the journey.

And feel free to gank my "The Road Goes Ever On and On" icon, too, if you like.

Walkertracker.com, for recording steps if you wear a pedometer every day. Found it through SparkPeople.

I finally caught up on entering data in my workout log. Since I started wearing a pedometer in August 2003 and keeping track of my mileage, I have gone 4,125 miles. I achieved the entire distance of Frodo's journey, there and back again, to the point that he sailed from the Grey Havens (3884 miles) on January 9. I reached another landmark (4091 miles) the point when Sam returned home to Bag End, on February 24. If I go any farther (and I believe I shall) I will be following Pippin or Merry's journey now.

I have finally caught up on my mileage log. I have gone a total of 3,301 miles, and have passed Isengard and am now 74 miles past Rivendell. on my way back to the Shire.

Read about the Eowyn Challenge here.

I've probably failed to record a few, but I've done 132 workouts this year.

Still no e-mail. My frustration has reached ominous, nay, nuclear levels.

But here's good news: I've made it to Weathertop on the Walk to Rivendell! Two hundred and forty-one miles.

Cheers,
Peg

The Walk to Rivendell continues. As of yesterday, I've passed the 80 mile mark, which means I'm past the High Hay, and am now entering the Old Forest.

The Walk to Rivendell continues:

Last week (4/5) I had ended at 30.21 miles
4/6 Sunday: 0.73 miles
4/7 Monday: 2.41 miles
4/8 Tuesday: 2.5 miles
4/9 Wednesday: 5.46 miles
4/10 Thursday: 4.29
4/11 Friday: 2.83 miles
4/12 Saturday: 0.85 miles
This weekly total of 19.07 miles has brought me up to 49.28. When I add today's totals, I'll be over the 50 mile mark. At this point the hobbits are in the rough country east of Woodhall, following Frodo's attempted shortcut on the way to the Buckleberry Ferry. Only about 408 miles to go.

Here's my first report on the Eowyn Challenge:

3/28 Friday: 4.192 miles
3/29 Saturday: 1.142 miles
3/30 Sunday: 2.694 miles
3/31 Monday: 5.239 miles
4/1 Tuesday: 4.975 miles
4/2 Wednesday: 0.876 miles (pitiful, but I think the pedometer wasn't catching all of my steps that day)
4/3 Thursday: 2.136 miles
4/4 Friday: 1.120 miles
4/5 Saturday: 2.477 miles

Total: 30.213. Almost met up with the Black Rider (mile 32). Only about 428 miles to go. . .

Cheers,
Peg

I find this semi-hilarious, but actually perhaps not a bad idea. Gacked from [livejournal.com profile] theonering_net. This is an online group of LOTR fans who have hit upon a novel way to get fit--by sharing a commitment to walk as far as Rivendell. More. Anyone can join.
