pegkerr: (What would Dumbledore do?)
Like [livejournal.com profile] sleigh, I managed to get signed up on the American Family Association's action alert e-mail list. I did this by answering one of their surveys, in which they asked people to send their support to Congress for being bigots opposition to civil rights for gays. I voted "No." It's extremely interesting to get their alerts, in a squicky kind of way, because it gives an insight into the Christian Right's thinking. I am indebted to them today for alerting me to an upcoming vote in the House this week on ENDA, the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (H.R. 2015), would make it illegal to fire, refuse to hire, or refuse to promote an employee based on his sexual orientation or "gender identity." High time for this to be passed, don't you think? AFA raved in their action alert about how this would offer "special privileges" to a group that is not disadvantaged and would not offer enough of a religious exemption.

Horse puckey.

I'll call my Congressman today to offer support for ENDA. You should, too.

Hey, thanks for the action alert, AFA!

I worked quite last night, until 10:30 p.m. Since I don't have lights on my bike, the firm paid for me to take a cab home. The attorney for whom I was working chivalrously escorted me downstairs to wait for it.

"You know, you don't have to wait with me for the cab," I told him when we got down to the street. "It'll be along in a moment, and the security guard is right there inside the door."

"Oh, I'm not going to leave you out alone on the street, Peg," he protested.

"Well," I told him diffidently, "of course if anyone hassles me, I can just kick them in the head."

He laughed. "That's right. Maybe you should be protecting me."
pegkerr: (Wizard Rock)
The Weasel King has launched his new website. (Remember when I posted the link to his video to his song "Through and Through"? To celebrate, he is making ALL of his (very excellent) songs available for high quality free download (better than the sound quality you can get from the few songs he has on MySpace). Go here to get thirteen songs for free from one of the best wizard rockers out there. Huzzah!

(If you download and listen, leave a comment telling me what you think. Snape fans (are you paying attention, [livejournal.com profile] snapecast?), listen particularly to the song at the end of the album "Magical Decree Number Twenty-Four. It's heartbreaking. Time for another video, [livejournal.com profile] chaeche?)
