Republicans in the Senate
Apr. 24th, 2008 01:31 pm Edited: I am livid with this story:
I suppose it doesn't matter much since Bush would have vetoed it anyway.
I disagree--vehemently--with last year's Supreme Court decision, but not surprised that, once again, the Republicans are perfectly happy to serve their corporate masters by sticking to people who only want to earn honest pay for their work.
(Actually, I take it back--I did have one surprise: my state's Republican senator, Norm Coleman did not vote with the rest of the Republicans on the closure motion. Yeah, that's nice, but it's hard for me to give him credit. I still haven't forgiven him for taking Paul Wellstone's seat, and I probably never will.) Edited to add: But as
minnehaha B. points out here, it's not like Norm Coleman supports the act, either. It's all re-election politics.

Senate Democrats failed Wednesday to overcome a threatened Republican filibuster of a bill that would loosen the restrictions on the length of time in which workers could file pay discrimination claims against their employers.Surprised? No. But still livid.
The 56-42 vote was split largely along party lines. Six Republicans joined all but one of the Democrats and independents in attempting to block the filibuster, which required 60 votes for success. Two Republicans, including the party's likely presidential nominee, John McCain of Arizona, did not vote.
