Saw this notice on Wizrocklopedia [[livejournal.com profile] wizrocklopedia]: Yet another example of what wizard rockers are doing to decrease worldsuck:
Upon learning about families and children affected by natural disasters across the world, Megan, from The Wizard Rockumentary, and Mark, from Marked As His Equal, decided they wanted to help. Megan and Mark created From Beneath These Ashes, a 2-disc Wizard Rock compilation featuring over 30 Wizard Rock bands, and spanning both "light" and "dark" themes.

All of the proceeds from the compilation will go to Save the Children, "the leading independent organization creating lasting change in the lives of children in need in the United States and around the world.” Save the Children continues to help children and families who have been affected by disasters in our country, like hurricane relief in the Gulf Coast, and all over the world, such as the cyclones in Myanmar.

From Beneath These Ashes features previously unreleased songs from The Remus Lupins, Catchlove, House of Black, Draco and the Malfoys, and many other awesome Wizard Rock bands. There will be a limited run of hard copy CDs, so don’t forget to preorder! After the hard copies have run out, the compilation will remain online for purchase to continue raising funds.

Whether you see yourself singing along to the "light" side, rocking out to the "dark" side, or you just want to get an amazing CD in exchange for helping families in need, From Beneath These Ashes is sure to please.

See the track list here. Preorders are open now. You can reserve your copy here.
Yes, I ordered my copy, which is what I did today to make the world a better place.

I am writing this post to pass along the story of two local friends, Peter ([livejournal.com profile] jbru) and Ericka ([livejournal.com profile] erickavan) who are facing an increasingly desperate situation. As Peter explains here, he has been out of work since last July, and he and Ericka, who is bedridden with severe health problems, are in imminent danger of losing their home. Their home has been modified to accommodate Ericka, due to her disabilities, and losing it would be a severe blow.

Peter and Ericka are kind and generous people who are truly doing their best, who have extended a helping hand to others over the years (including me). A number of their friends are doing their best to find a way to help them now. There are plans to set up an auction, and there is a community journal set up for them, [livejournal.com profile] accessiblehouse, with more information and a button for PayPal donation. If you can help in either of those areas, or in other ways, please take a minute to do what you can, OK? As [livejournal.com profile] elisem put it, "Even a couple of bucks would really help, both in monetary terms and in the sense of letting them know that other people care about them."

Peter's resume is here (an MS Word document).

Thanks.
