I waited in line for an hour (half an hour of that was outside the building in the rain. Glad I brought an umbrella!). I was the 439th person to cast a ballot in my precinct (at 8:30 a.m.). I suspect turnout it going to be heavy.

I will go back to the polling place tonight, because the girls want to cast their straw votes for the Kids Choice Vote program. Fortunately, the election judges told me, we won't have to wait in line all over again.

I am voting after my class today at 3:00 and my mom warned me to bring along some homework or reading as we could be in line for a long time. I'm told to expect to wait at least an hour, so we'll see how it goes.

What is the Kids Choice Vote program?

I gather that it's sort of a straw poll that school children can take, which is run by the League of Women Voters at polling places. I did a Google search and found their website here. Their proper name is Kids Voting Minnesota. The votes, of course, don't count, but they are tallied and reported by the media. Part of the idea is voter education, but I think that they hope that excited kids will prod their parents to take them to the polls--which increases the adult vote. It's a pretty good idea, I think.

I think it is a good idea too. I was very fortunate this afternoon and went right in there was no line at all and I voted right away. I was already registered so I was there for at most 10 minutes.

But I have to tell you that when I went in I saw two girls, each their with their mothers and one girl asked her friend if she was going to vote. She said yes and the girl asked her who she was voting for, and she got closer to her friend and whispered, "Kerry!" and her friend cheered and went, "yes!". They were probably about 8 or 9. It was just so cute, it made my day.

I voted about 11am. No wait at my polling place although there were lots of people there. I'm sure that there were lines earlier and that there will be later as well.

I was 113th

I'd meant to get up at 6:00 to get to the polling station about two blocks from me - woke up instead at 6:45... The park-rec building where the polling station was packed, but I figured it only took me 20-25 minutes from start to fin...

(Sorry, I just got distractec by the fact that NBC has turned 30 Rock into a giant bar graph...)

Anyway, by 7:30 am I was all done.

Poor you! I had a mild fifteen-minute wait on a little modular chair reading Steven King indoors. I tremble for those made to wait on foot or outside in nasty weather for extravagant periods of time today.
