Thanks to my friend Shari for passing on this information:

For those of you who have or will have all three extended editions of the Lord of the Rings films, there is a special slipcase for all three that you can get for the price of shipping ($3). This is the same slipcase that the recently marketed set of three extended cuts comes with.

It's only available until March 31 or until supplies last. You can order it at lotrdvdbox.com. The site was originally going to go live tomorrow, December 14, but it is up now (possibly because so many copies of the RoTK extended cut were shipped early).

Yes, we are great big geeks, thank you very much.

Shari

Too bad.

Only in U.S.

I am trying to find out if there is a Canadian version of the offer. Will post it here if I find something. Damned imperialistic "only in U.S." offers -- the trilogy was shot by Kiwis based on a book by an Englishman!

Many thanks! I had to have the RotK fangrrl boxed set to get my full Eowyn fix, and now I can put them all nicely together.

I was greatly tempted, but I'm a bit suspicious. The site links to New Line, but it doesn't seem to obviously originate from New Line. It's just a random website offering me a too-good-to-be-true offer, in exchange for my credit card number (they don't accept checks or debit cards). And the "8 - 10 weeks for delivery" gives them plenty of time for them to rip me off before I start wondering where my nifty slipcase is.

Am I just too jaded? I hate to pass it up, because it sounds really cool! But I don't think I want to risk it, unless someone knows more about where this offer is coming from.

I posted about this on [livejournal.com profile] lordoftherings, too, and [livejournal.com profile] floridagirl1025 commented that there was a flyer about it included with the Extended Edition DVD.

Ah, well that's quite reassuring! Nice to know not everything good has to be a scam. Perhaps I will go for it after all. Thanks very much!
