I thought the scones were delicious. Rob ate his entire share, too. Fiona ate one of her two, and Delia nibbled at hers. The cocoa was universally admired and enjoyed, as were the stockings.

I'm taking one of the extra scones for a mid-morning snack. Elastigirl is now dangling from my keychain.

Happy Twelfth night [morning], everyone!

Ooo, I'll definitely want it! I'd say e-mail it to me, but my e-mail isn't working yet. I'll announce when it's up and running, or if it isn't too long, you could post the recipe as a comment? Thanks!

Gingerbread scones

2 C flour
1/3 C firmly packed brown sugar
2 tsp baking powder
1/8 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp ground ginger
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/8 tsp ground cloves
1/8 tsp ground nutmeg
1/2 tsp salt
1/3 C butter, chilled
1 egg
3 Tbsp molasses
3 Tbsp milk
1 tsp vanilla

In a large bowl, combine flour, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and spices (including salt). Cut butter into 1/2" cubes and distribute them over the flour mixture. With a pastry blender or your fingers, cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. In a small bowl combine egg, molasses, milk and vanilla. Add egg mixture to flour mixture and stir to combine. (I find using my hands is more efficient after the initial stir.) The dough will be sticky.

Butter or Pam-spray a 10"-diameter circle in the center of a baking sheet. With lightly floured hands, pat the dough into an 8"-diameter circle on the prepared baking sheet. With a sharp knife (helps to flour the blade), cut into 8 wedges. Bake 20-25 mins at 375F until toothpick comes out clean. Cool at least 5 mins on a wire rack.

(I've also cut it into 12 wedges, for Will's office, so there's more to go around. Same diameter circle, just smaller slices.)

From: Simply Scones, by Leslie Weiner and Barbara Albright. Lots of great stuff in there (including jazzed-up spreads). This is one of our all-time favorites, though.

I love that you've adopted Elastigirl as your totem. Now I want to see that movie even more.

I thought it was a great movie. Though, I didn't pick up on the archetypes inherent to the design of the main characters until you pointed it out. Color me dumb. ;-)

So, being out and running errands instead of sleeping today I decided I'd catch the early showing of The Incredibles at the Har Mar theater.

After a brief period of confusion in which I was sitting in the wrong theater in the multi-plex, I got to the correct theater just as the previews were ending.

I enjoyed the film very much. It started out looking a bit like Wild Cards played for laughs. I empathized with Mr. Incredible, side-lined while trying to do good and doing what he can in his "day job," while trying to hang on to the life he once had.

I can see why you like Elastigirl. She seemed the most, if you'll forgive me, flexible of the supers and I really enjoyed the way that she used her powers with intelligence and was very much the one that held the "team" together.
