Anyone read Gaston LeRoux's Phantom of the Opera? Could you recommend a translation, or is it worth trying to track down Leonard Wolf's annotated edition?

I have this edition: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0743498364/qid=1109199378/sr=1-2/ref=sr_1_2/102-8159466-2643301?v=glance&s=books which is edited by Leonard Wolf. I found it a very, very satisfying read, as did my teenager. [livejournal.com profile] poisoninjest can fill you in on all the ins and outs of the various translations.

Yes, that's the one I was interested in, as it said it was annotated.

The annotations aren't all that helpful, at least to my daughter or me; there are cites for every Greek god or obscure opera composer mentioned, but not much social history.
