Today, in the food court of the building where I work, I was publicly saluted for my civic-mindedness by a garbage can which said loudly as I dumped the trash from my lunch: “Thank you for helping to keep our area clean.”

I was so startled, I almost dropped the tray in, too.

(Perhaps I should take this opportunity to say that I am not interested in the opinion, on any subject whatsoever, of any public toilet I use, now or in the future. I sincerely hope it won’t come to that.)

I can hear it now - "Thank you for flushing the toilet. You have contributed to the overall hygiene of your environment and spared the nose and stomach of the next user. Have a nice day."

*laugh* I just ranted about toilets. I don't know -- maybe if the toilets talked around my workplace we wouldn't have the non-flushing problems that we have. I'd love it if the toilet sang out "Hey! You forgot to flush!" It would delight my soul. :)

But congratulations to you on being a clean and non-littering person!

I just read a rather overwhelming story about someone who dumped dry ice into the airplane's toilet - whereupon it sprouted like a blue fountain.

Maybe the surrounding area can make comments?
