Went to church, bringing along Delia's Girl Scout cookies that needed to be distributed. Got them all distributed (less boxes underfoot in the kitchen, thank heavens).

Came home, ate lunch, short call with [livejournal.com profile] kijjohnson.

Take Delia to Space Camp meeting. Sit through the parents' meeting.

Go upstairs to Anodyne coffeeshop, start reading cousin's novel manuscript that she wants critiqued. Read and take notes for two and a half hours.

Pick up Delia from Space Camp meeting and take her home.

Fold laundry. Start new load.

Clean up office a little. Do Pilates workout.

Read newspaper, including want ads.

Eat broccoli and low fat hollendaise sauce for dinner.

Ask Delia if her homework is done. She says yes. I ask to see it. She starts crying hysterically. Seems that she has not done three two weeks worth of spelling. Calm her down. I help her clean up a place to do it (the dining room table) and sit there clipping coupons to keep her there and on task. When finished with that, work more on reviewing cousin's manuscript.

Not accomplished today:

Did not conference with [livejournal.com profile] kiramartin about coordinating summer plans for our kids.

I fought entropy, but the house is still a mess. It is one against three, four if you count the house itself. Not fair odds at all.

No, I am not asking for advice.

An observation from my life: My house is an unholy mess. It has been so for the past five years while I cared for Mama and Bill. I now have the rest of my life to clean my house and Mama's which is now also mine and in only somewhat better shape. Know what? I would gladly have another five years of a messy place for even one more week with both of them. Still, it is hard, even knowing that, for me to not rake myself over the coals for not keeping our place nicer while I took care of them. I guess the desire for perfection in the way our place looks is something many women share.

For what it is worth, I hear you being a great wife and mother and writer. I know you will find the right balance for YOU in this. The heck with what anyone else, outside your family, thinks.
