Taking the month of December off from karate has had an unexpected effect: now Fiona is unsure whether she wants to go for black belt after all. I told her that I didn't expect to continue, because we couldn't pay for both of us now that the scholarship is over, and Delia is going to be doing ballet. We've had a month of not running to the dojo, and gee, that feels kinda nice. And it's not so fun to think of slogging on all by herself.

So she has said that she'll go back this week and see how it goes. She doesn't have to decide until the end of January.

(I have to admit: I almost hope she decides no. Less demands in my life really could be a good thing right now. And it would be sooo nice to have some more money in my checking account and time on my calendar. Taking the month off really was an eye-opener for all of us.)

When you've discussed the family schedule in the past, it's been amazingly full. You squeeze a lot into every day. Maybe 2006 is a year to breathe.

Out of curiosity, is Fiona motivated by the competition with her sister?

You know, in my best judgment, I really don't think that she is. I have never detected Fiona ever measuring herself against her sister. And we really try not to compare one to the other.

Yeah, fair enough. I mean, I only read your lj, I was just surprised that Fiona was considering not going back, I thought she was pretty into it. I'm glad you've had a somewhat more relaxing December. :)

I love the idea of all of you having room to breathe.

If Fiona does decide not to go back after all,
1) would that mean that there would be enough slack time- and finances-wise for *you* to return?
2) If so, would you want to?

I can sure relate to haviong the time. My two Judokas sat December out and it's been very relaxing not to have something 6 nights a week. It has actually given me a little creative space to get involved in an RPG. Not enough to actually write anything, but a bit.

Maybe with some space, your muse will return?
