Bush is attempting to gut the Constitution he took an oath to defend.

What is it going to take to stop this man? I believe that Arlen Specter is planning on holding hearings on the NSA signing statements issue. Is there anyone else who is going to show some guts and stand up to stop this dictatorial power grab? When/how can the Supreme Court step in to restore the balance of power? Is the damage to our system of government reversable?

WHY WILL NOBODY STOP HIM? Is it too already late? Help!

It does raise one possibility. If he's claiming that his statis as C-in-C of the military puts him above the law, then maybe the appropriate action is not an impeachment ..... but a court-martial.

On one hand, I think it was too late as soon as George W. Bush stole that first election. On the other hand, there's always a good chance that the Democrats will nominate someone far more ethical (simply because, even in the sometimes dirty world of politics, there are people more ethical than others, and even if I weren't generally fond of Democrats, they would really have to work to find someone less ethical than the incumbent). I am going to do what I always do -- which is to vote.

I heard some of an interview with the author of this article on Fresh Aire with Teri Gross this morning. It's just an amazing and arogant interpretation of what he thinks he can do. He really does have to be stopped and I hope Alan Specter has the balls to do it. It's essentially a line item veto on policy laws, which the supreme court has ruled unconstitional.

There is a fear that it's too late already, but I don't think it's that bad. The way to stop him, or whoever else would step into his place in a year and a half, is to elect Democrats. Preferably Democrats with backbone, but I'll take any Democrat at this point. It's a start at least.

Hey, it's totally not relevant to this entry, but I just read an article about mothers taking up their kids' sports instead of sitting on the sidelines (it was linked from a rowing site) and immediately thought of you. The article is here.

Peg, I'm sorry - this has nothing to do with your entry. I just wanted to let you know that I posted a bunch of prom dress rugby pics in my journal (http://piccolo-pirate.livejournal.com/94792.html?). I'll also let you know when we get more on the website (most likely post-finals.) This batch is pretty small, but I hope you enjoy them.

Hi. This has nothing to do with your entry, but some squids have personality.

I'm as bewildered and disgusted as you. Can't believe this man's not been impeached yet.

Sort of relatedly, take a look at this:

Stopping him is a one-word solution: impeach.
