STILL IN THE SAME ORANGE PANTS WITH MISMATCHED SOCKS! Edited to add: Ohhhhh, and mismatched shoes, too. And I'll bet you anything she hasn't combed her hair all week. Get her away from her parents, and the girl goes wild.

How cute. I am dying of curiosity, though: what is she eating?

I think that must be a juice box.

I'm more wondering how the finicky vegetarianism is working with the Space Camp diet.

I can't blame her. Those orange pants are spiff.

They were hand-me-downs, I believe. Older girl cousins are so handy!

I've been loving this vicarious Space Camp fun we've been having through her pictures. In that last photo, the way she's crouched down, she looks like some sort of ridiculously adorable long legged frog! I am loving the mismatched footwear SO HARD.

Not to mention >flexible.

Delia's feet

Delia often wears mismatched socks. Partly a style thing, partly a laundry thing. What I didn't notice until today's pictures, and now I have to go back through the past several days, is that she has also mismatched her SHOES. Go figure.

That has become a girl thing out here, at least--one of the many 'you're my friend' signals, girls trade one shoe.

And I'll bet you anything she hasn't combed her hair all week.

In space no one can comb their hair. (Why do you think I shave my head?)

I love that look on her. She owes it to the world to stay that hip. And the no-combing look? She'd be adorable with elflocks. Then she can come climb with me and all the boys will swoon over her.

I used to wonder (from the pictures) how my Mom could let me go out wearing red knee socks, blue cotton overalls, and a yellow t-shirt. I now suspect she just gave up.

Mismatched shoes? Mismatched socks I can deal with, but mismatched shoes????

I love the last photo on your post - the little girl on the right in the green shorts has an absolutely priceless 'wtf?' expression on her face.

When my sister was in high school, her nickname was Crayola because she always wore mismatched clothing -- her favourite outfit was a green t-shirt, yellow tank top, bright orange shorts, a red sweatband, one white sock, one blue one, and her "hand-painted" soccer shoes. Drove my parents insane, and I was totally mortified by her -- until I asked her why she wore "those things." Her response was really humbling. "I like color. And I don't see what difference it makes what anyone else thinks about the way I look. We're always judged on appearances. You'll have to judge me on something else, 'cause I don't think that's important." She was also the blond white kid whose best friends were a black girl and a vietnamese boy, who relished their differences when the politically correct kids like me were too ignorant to understand that while everyone looks different and that's not a problem, it does mean that everyone has a different experience.

Maybe Delia's just being careless. Or maybe she's being her very own version of cool. Or maybe there's another reason why, altogether.

Man, that kid is enjoying the hell out of herself. Yay!

(You remind me of my mother. She /still/ tries to brush my hair for me, and I'm 33!)

And is none the worse for it, it seems.
