Rob had a phone interview with the legal publisher Thomson-West (perhaps you have heard of Westlaw) that went well. It sounds as though they'll be setting up a second interview for him.

I am trying to not get my hopes up too high but . . . yeah. A good job, real soon now, would be very welcome.

It's a good company which is on the Working Mother's list of 100 Best Companies to work for, so family friendly. They staff around the clock, 24/7, and the new people on the totem pole get the bottom pick of hours. But on the plus side, you know your schedule two months in advance (as opposed to only a week in advance, as it was at his old job) and you only work three weekend days every two months, and never two in the same weekend. A definite improvement.

And I hope they don't have Thanksgiving Day sales.

I got Thanksgiving Day off automatically when I worked there. I had to take a vacation day to have the next day off, but it wasn't a major problem. Pay was excellent and benefits were fine; there were aspects of the job that drove me nuts, but (a) he would be doing something completely different from what I was doing anyway and (b) I'd go back to that job before I worked retail for the holiday issue alone!

And the commute from South Minneapolis is really pretty painless. The joys of a reverse commute.

Good luck to him. :-)

Congrats to him on the phone interview and here's hoping for that second interview as well! It makes sense that they'd be interested in his skills.

I interviewed with them as well. I was impressed by how well their HR person kept in contact to let me know how the process was proceeding. So many times you're left dangling only to hear weeks later how things went.

I, as it turns out, got a job offer from them today! (I'm considering the offer and haven't replied yet.) I hope Rob has similar success!

I work for Thomson (no P by the way) TTA (Tax & Accounting) at the CSI Dexter office. It is a good company. The CSI division was an acquisition a few years back, and when we were purchased we were in a very favorable situation, so we got to keep a lot of our own rules and culture, so it's possible I'm insulated from some stuff, but in general they seem decent.

Sounds like a great opportunity - wishing Rob luck in the next round of interviews, and beyond . . .

My company's on that list, too! Working in a place that understands, on a corporate level, that your network of obligations goes further than the office walls is absolutely priceless--I'll keep my fingers crossed for you and Rob.
