Yeah, so, LiveJournal angst

I have been looking at my friends page only sporadically for the past couple of weeks, being distracted by real life. When I finally cottoned onto the fact that apparently LiveJournal made a Very Big Mistake and now is Very Very Sorry, I considered that this would be a good opportunity to make a thoughtful and interesting post touching upon corporate governance and public relations, fandom and fanfiction, the boundary between fantasy and reality, the appeal and danger of the taboo, censorship, trust, and protecting children vs. free speech.

But you know what? There has already been an awful lot of ink spilled bytes slaughtered on this topic without my contribution. And frankly, right now I have enough drama in my own life without commenting on somebody else's, even LiveJournal, as much as I love it. I'm having a hard time even mustering up much of a reaction as a result. I know that this affected tons of people on my friends list, and I love you all and hope you don't pull up stakes and move elsewhere. For the time being, I'm too busy coping with my own life to muster up the energy to go storming off myself to another blogging service, so I'll still be here.

And I hope I find my energy to make interesting posts again someday. Really.

From a pretty much lurker I hope it gets better. I've been meaning to post to tell you, and this seems like the moment, that ever since you mentioned your "love chant" I made one for my toddler son, and it is amazing. He loves it, I think it smoothed over a family visit recently, and it really helped soothe him lately when we were at the doctor's. Thanks for sharing these details of your life!

I understand your sentiments about the whole Mistake-Apology-MovingOn deal -- I've been trying to muster up support and good thoughts for the people affected, but in the end there are other things that have taken first precedence. And that's okay for everyone.

I hope that you and Rob and the girls are finding moments and even hours or days to enjoy amidst the anxiety and stress. I'm still thinking good thoughts for you both.

Just a thought -- has Rob signed up for an account at LinkedIn.com? It's a professional networking site built off of the social networking premise, and is a great opportunity to connect with professionals in all levels at various industries. I'm on the fringes of things here in NY (but getting more acclimated as my career circles expand); no idea what the Minnesota usage is like, but it might be worth a look.
