Damn you, [livejournal.com profile] kijjohnson. This is all your fault. To keep myself going until (stick your fingers in your ears, [livejournal.com profile] papersky and say, "La la la la la") the Two Towers DVD is released, I've been watching the Richard Sharpe movies that Kij gave me. Why not? Sean Bean and everything. I have four of the fourteen of them. So I thought today, hmm, why not pick up one of the books that they're based on? I checked the Internet. There are about twenty of them. If I buy them new, they're $13.00 each. I know that if I start reading one, I'll want the whole set, because I'm just that way. I picked up Sharpe's Tiger and am several chapters in. Note to self: check the USED bookstores.

Yes, I see I am about to perhaps dive into a new obsession. Silly Peg. You don't have time for this.

I love those books. Love. Cheers on the choice of obsession. :)

Why not check the local libraries? Okay, the Minneapolis public libraries are closed this week due to budget cuts, but the Hennepin county libraries are open. That way, you won't have to spend money, and won't have to find someplace to put all the books. (If you are anything like me, that's always a problem.) If you find you really have to have them, you can alert friends and check yard sales. If I'm right, and this is the series by Bernard Cornwell, libraries are well-stocked with his books, and they turn up at garage sales when people move.

Rita Mae Brown has a book on how to write. The two main things I got out of it were: exercise every day, and you can read or you can write. It's hard to do both. Reading can eat up your writing time so fast.

This is from the person who has 1600 words due by the end of the week, and just finished the latest Charles deLint rather than write. (It is, not surprising, fabulous!)

Sean Bean!

Ha! That's funny. A good friend of mine, [livejournal.com profile] astraether, is a huge Sean Bean fan. And she's big into the Sharpe series, too. It is kind of funny to watch you both talk about him; even some of your entries remind me of one another.

I have to say, Boromir was my favorite in Fellowship. Some were all about Aragorn or Legolas, but for me, the most interesting character was Boromir. So I can see the Sean Bean fascination. And the Sharpe series(those I've seen) is pretty cool. It doesn't hurt either that Elizabeth Hurley was topless in one episode. :)

I read two of the Sharpe books, and didn't like them quite as much as the movies. I hope that's a comfort to you -- maybe they won't stick the way the movies are sticking.
