It's interesting to see the influences going back and forth. Some groups cover other bands' songs (e.g., Ministry of Magic covering both Harry and the Potters' "This Book is So Awesome" and Draco and the Malfoys' "Potions Yesterday"). Edited to add: Oh, and hey! Romilda Vane and the Chocolate Cauldrons has just released a cover of one of my favorite wrock songs of all times, "A Heart Worth Loving" by The Whomping Willows. Downloadable, too!

But also interesting is the way some bands are taking songs done by other bands and remixing them, at the first bands' invitation. Examples: Peeved taking RiddleTM's "Ode to Voldemort" and remixing it, or The Misuse of Muggle Artifacts Office taking The Weasel King's "Red Hair" and remixing it.

Also interesting is when bands decide to record their own song, consciously trying to use another band's style. The Misuse of Muggle Artifacts Office has posted two new ones, employing the style of Ministry of Magic (hey, they've got good taste), "Lovegood MoM Style" and "The Burrow." And on that second one, they collaborated with RiddleTM, in order to call to mind the way that Ministry of Magic sounds when they collaborate with The Moaning Myrtles. (With me so far?) As the Misuse of Muggle Artifacts office put it:
So I wrote this song, and it's called 'The Burrow', and its about Harry, Ginny, The Weasley Family, and... The Burrow. (all in one neat little wav package)

So I recorded it and sent it to RiddleTM and they were like 'Yeah lets collaborate', so we did.

I've been wanting to do a collaboration for a while now (they look fun) and I am so lucky to have had the chance to work with Victoria and Georgia on this one. Their songwriting blows me away. They've added their own very special touch to this track. Kudos girls, kudos.

As usual let me talk inspiration. Well, this track was very much inspired by bands such as Bloc Party, Edguy, Daft Punk, HelloGoodbye and Rhapsody of Fire (more towards the end), so naturally the outcome is a little different compared to our typical kick-hat-kick-hat-kick-hat-kick-hat-kick-hat- Misuse sound, but change and diversity is good and we will be showing a lot more of it in the not so far away future. :)

Here I looked at MoM's cutting and splicing on their vocal lines and thought "ah what the heck there can't be anything wrong with showing a little more MoM in this track even after doing an entire track purposely replicating what we think is their typical sound" :)

Well I probably didn't have that exact phrasing run through my head but it was probably along those lines.

"Lovegood," might I add, has proven to be our most successful track to date. The play count in the space of a few weeks has exceeded that of Occlumency lessons which was re-uploaded prior to Christmas, so thank you MoMoM for your inspiration. You guys are uberawesome, and that is saying something because awesome without uber is still amazing, (y) (y) (y) --- (y) (y) (and two for the interns).

Once again, I encourage other wrock bands to write one song and recorded in the style of another wrock band, it's immense fun!!! and it must be a massive compliment to the band too!!!

You know this whole wrock thing is getting a little crazy when "hmm what wrock band shall I listen too?" replaces "hmm what band shall I listen to."
While you're checking these bands out, notice some of the new recordings The Weasel King has up.
