Homemade Tomato-basil soup in thermos (recipe from The Vegan Lunchbox). Apple butter/peanut butter sandwich on whole wheat, plum tomato, kale and spinach turnover (recipe from Cooking Light; these freeze really well), and mixture of cottage cheese, canned pumpkin and maple syrup for dessert.

Two songs available for free download on Catchlove's supplemental page: "Sibyll Trelawney" (which is a parody of "Eleanor Rigby") and "The Lonely Life of Sir Nick."

Pretty good stuff. Catchlove is one part of the two-musician duo Talons and Tealeaves, the other member is Christian of Oliver Boyd and the Remembralls.

Kinda cool story:
Nadya Vessey is keen to get into the water and begin her swim. She comes to the steps which lead her down to the sea. First she removes her left leg, then her right. She places them beside her - careful not to get any sand or water on them. Before she begins her descent into the water she notices a little boy standing behind her.

He is staring at her stump. "Where are the rest of your legs?" he asks.

Vessey looks at him with a twinkle in her eye. Rather than get into the logistics of amputation with a four-year-old she says: "Have you heard of the little mermaid?"

"Yes," he says, his eyes widening.

"Well, I'm a mermaid," she says.

"Wow," says the awe struck child. "That's cool."

This was back in 2005, when the idea of being a mermaid was a complete fantasy - and a way to avoid explaining the depth of her situation to a child. Now, in just a few weeks, that fantasy will become a reality for Vessey. Since the beginning of the year Weta Workshop [of Lord of the Rings fame] has been designing her a tail. Soon this woman, with a double amputation and a love for swimming, will become New Zealand's one and only mermaid.

Dismal, gloomy, rainy . . . this is a perfect day for a pot of Earl Grey tea.

Mmmm . . .

The Ministry of Magic ran a contest, inviting contestants to create videos to one of their songs. The winner is below. I'm including this link because it's set to my absolute favorite wizard rock song of the moment, "Ascendio," on the album The Triwizard LP," which you can purchase either through their MySpace page or on iTunes.

Boy, I'm really spamming LJ today.

Sensei gave me these links featuring an English teacher on a poetry slam program:

This one's inspiring: What Teachers Make )

This one's funny: Like--You Know )

And this, extremely funny, which I point out particularly to the copyeditors on my list (some bad language, all in the nature of Freudian slips): The Impotence of Proofreading )

Enjoy.
