Yeah, this happens to me a lot in grad school. Another reason I think I'm not suited for it. x_x

ohhhh, the post-lunch crash... it's the worst. Our office got really overwarm in the afternoons, too, which makes it worse. ZZZZzzzzzzzzzz...

I actually did fall asleep once. But luckily, it was while I was pregnant, so they were forgiving. :)

This is EXACTLY what happens to me reading Hamlet criticism. Does your subconscious try to finish sentences for you? Because mine does, and it's very disconcerting.

This is why we need to live in a country that believes in the value of naps.

Though I cannot feel your pain in the work zone, I often want to crash midafternoon during classes. Unfortunately, that is when they all got scheduled...

I found your livejournal by accident, and I want to say that it has lead me to a whole bunch of interesting possibilities from reading your journal for about a week now. I'm fairly new to livejournal, and you belong to some awesome communities. So I swear, I'm not stalking you, just taking tips. :)

Good luck at work!

Luckily I live in a country that does believe in the siesta. Granted, I'm not supposed to nap at work, but a lot of people invariably end up nodding off and that's basically okay, especially if it's a government office.

I think valuing-naps is more common in hot climates.

I have been there so many times. I know I have dozed off occasionally, luckily I have an office and I look like I'm just really concentrating on my computer work. But some afternoons, nothing seems to help. That's when I go outside and take a walk to the other building (even if there is noone I need to talk to there) Wish I had a great tip for waking up, but I'm too sleepy to think of one. :)

That's me right now...

Usually around 1 am and 4 am (when I am pulling all-night writes). I finished the final draft of my first novel in that sort of haze. The nice thing is, after just a bit of editing, it is usually pretty good!

The best sentence I ever typed while asleep at the keyboard: "There was a moment into which Zach's number was one."

I so relate to this. Imagine you're doing just that, except that it's 3:00 a.m. That's what my day is like when my body rebels against 3rd shift. I don't do caffiene, however, so I make do with crunchy snacks.

I can take a nap if I want to -- I mean, nobody will fire me -- but it severely messes up my sleep schedule, which is already messed up by intermittent insomnia.

What I find most efficacious is tea -- not coffee, coffee seems too harsh for that time of day -- and a snack with some protein to it. Avoid tryptophan. Nuts and apples, peanut butter and apple, green salad with walnuts, all have worked for me.

It's tricky eating something with salad dressing on it at the computer, though.
