I last did this in June of 2005, so it's probably time to do it again:

Gacked mostly verbatim from [livejournal.com profile] nmalfoy: Lurkers out there, yo, today's your day. Whether you're a LJ-lurker or from someplace outside reading this journal, you are the reason this journal isn't locked by default. So, come out and say 'hi' or something. Tell me what you're doing here, how you feel, who you are, whatever. Today's the day to seize and be un-shy for once.

AND tell if you are a regular reader of this journal or just like to drop in when I'm being snarky or whatever. You can tell me what you like and what you don't like about it. It's okay; I'd like to know, and I have pretty thick skin. Well, usually.

Or just drop in to say hi... because it would be nice to know if there's more than the same 8 or 10 people that gets good use out of this journal, you know what I mean?

(And yeah, this means you, too, Mom. Leave a comment. You didn't leave one last time, but I'm still hoping you will!)

Hi! I mostly lurk, but think I've commented a few times. I really enjoy the way you write about your daily life.

I don't know what to say about me - currently the secretary/assistant for a graduate program but leaving at the end of the summer to do an MA in classics, live with my partner, no kids (who are here all the time - his come to visit and such), two cats. Nothing terribly exciting.

Hi. I read your lj, because your life is very different to mine and I like to know what makes people tick. YOu seem t have a lot of joy in your life - often from simple things, and you deal with frustration a lot. I am incredibly bad at dealing with frustrating things, so its nice to see someone who just gets on with life! I also think you are kind of hard on yourself(sorry if that's too personal) as you often seem to write about things you haven't done, or wish you could - but no-one can do everything, and you are a very active person in lots of ways (work, community, family) and that's quite unusual. Your lj is one of my daily reads, so thank you.

You can probably tell from that comment, that I'm not really one for talking about myself. I'm a 22yr old graduate working as a teaching assistant in a cramped city primary school. Its fun, hectic but days go fast and it makes getting out of bed a little easier knowing that three classes of children(84 in all) will be wondering where you are if you don't go in :) I work a little with EAL kids so I love looking at language, one of the best moments of the year was teaching a Tamil child a simple cvc words 'can' she said 'I can swimming!' Such joy. Amazing :) Knowledge is power, and sometimes happiness too.

Hi, Peg. I recently figured out how to read my LJ friends page from my cell phone, so I added you back on my friends list, since I always did enjoy reading your journal. I used to feel a bit out of it because I'm not part of the SF-Fantasy community, but I got over that. ;-) Mainly, you write like people I know in real life: friendly, conversational, intelligent but not pretentious. And I can relate to your life as a mom! And if all else fails, you're a fellow Minnesotan, so I can relate to what you write about the weather. Hoot.

Hey, I'm a regular reader.

Friended you after recognizing your name in some mutual friends' comments from my copy of 'Wild Swans'
And I just enjoy reading about your day-to-day life.

I think I've introduced myself before, but I'll do it again. :) I'm Merin - I think I first found your LJ through [livejournal.com profile] aome (who was one of my first LJ friends - you were right near the top of folks to friend, too, hee). Your hubby gave me a bookplate at Witching Hour, and I saw you in passing at Lumos. I'm here for everything you write, but I especially love your posts about your family. ♥

I read everything, but I started reading you before I knew you were an author. I like the day-to-day, I have sympathy for that (I have two sons currently ages 17 and 20, and a new grandson). I'm also a legal secretary.

Hi!

I found this journal after reading The Wild Swans. I started reading when you were talking about the writing process, and then I started enjoying your entries about daily life. I read it regularly.

I don't usually comment because I usually don't feel like I have something interesting or useful to say. Or if I do, someone else has already said it. I'm glad your journal isn't locked by default.

Me, me! I'm a regular reader, but I don't comment much, so I think I'm a lurker. I tend to perk up and say stuff when you talk about Jane Austen or writing generally, or sometimes about the girls - I love hearing you talking about the karate, it's my favorite! - but mostly, I think I lurk. I tend to comment sporadically to all my friends, I guess, so it's not really anything about your journal. I read it all the time. You always have such interesting links, I constantly click links from your lj where I usually skim over, and so forth. It's just a pretty fun, welcoming place to be.

I just got my first alert on lj which was triggered by your post on marriages with a gay rights tag. I managed to set it up back when you were posting on Chris Stewart. (And I must confess, I am still wondering how you're finding him currently. Looking at quotes from his columns gives me shutters to think of him in that job.) After having fallen months behind on lj, I went back through yours looking for more on him. Reading my way back was a delight. Your comments on the girls are a lovely reminder of my own child wrangling days. And thanks to all the photos, at Minicon when I encountered the rowdy gang partying in the elevator, I recognised the ringleader as I stepped over her. We've adored your charming husband since his college days and news of him is always welcome. As a member of the old co-housing cohort, I've been a fan of yours for a long time. The kindness you and Rob offered my father at a difficult time, mattered more than words can say. Although I did not see it personally, I have a vivid image of you dancing over the bridge. It's become my iconic image of you. I'm glad you're part of the community I most value and reading your posts increases my feeling of connection.

Hi! Been reading your journal for a while, but I don't often comment. We met in person once, way back in Nimbus 2003 - you graciously allowed me and [livejournal.com profile] flourish to interrupt your breakfast and signed The Wild Swans for me so that I could catch my early flight out, which meant a lot to me! Since you were the first author I'd ever gotten a book signed by, and I'd been chickening out all convention. So, this is a belated thank you for that kindness, I guess. Whether or not you choose to write in the future, you still have my admiration on a daily basis.

Um, and lest this become too gooey, I have a pet betta fish named Tiamat, and I'm currently listening to Weird Al Yankovic tell me that Everything [I] Know is Wrong, and also something about a rabid wolverine in my underwear.

Hello! I think I've commented once or twice, but I'm mostly a lurker. I started reading your journal because I used to read epicyclical's friendslist (I actually did until she changed over to thegraybook, but still). No idea how that started, I think I was bored one day and checked it out, and discovered lots of interesting people!

But I enjoy reading your entries, about everything. It is somehow all interesting, which I think is a lot about how you write it. Also, and I think another person mentioned this above, it's interesting to read about your life as an adult, with a family while I am a college student :)

Hi, Peg.

I'm a sophomore at Brown university, probably concentrating in linguistics but I love to write (nonfiction, mostly) and have this pipe dream of someday publishing a book. I found you through one of the karate communities on livejournal - you posted several times about your daughters and one was a crosspost to your journal that was just beautifully written and I jumped over and started reading. You're on my friends' list and I really enjoy the day-to-day.

Incidentally, I studied ballet for a long time before getting my black belt in two different styles of karate, so I enjoy hearing about your dance experience and all of the karate stories from your household. I play rugby now, for Brown (I think I gave you prom dress links last spring) and the balance/strength gained from dance and karate is absolutely invaluable when you take up any other sport.

Anyway, thanks for writing - I always enjoy reading your posts and I wish you the best of luck in future.

-Kate

Hallo! I like your journal. I particularly like the posts about your girls, both the current ones and the older stories from when they were small. Most of what you write about is interesting to me, though, so my primary comment remains "I like your journal."

I've been reading via [livejournal.com profile] naomikritzer's Flist, although if I may friend you that would be great. I especially enjoy reading about your family and day to day things, as it gives me useful perspective. (And notes for future, when my son & nephew & niece are older!)

I am lab manager/mom to 2 year old boy/wife; I used to live in MN; I love to write (just for me, mostly) and am slowly getting back into it via blogging after a very long absence.

Hi Peg! I always enjoy reading your journal. I Havent't been on much lately due to moving, my health, depression and just plain being angry with losing my high speed connection when I temporarily disconnected my phone. I will be lurking and commenting again soon. I have been making jewelry to sell and it is doing Ok, not great but it is fun so I even like those who just come by my booths and say they like what I have done. peace - - - Ellen

I think I got here from a friend of mine who reads you. But at any rate, I read now, pretty much daily, because I like your voice and you have interesting things to say.

I keep trying to get my mom to read your journal, because you remind me of her and I think she'd really enjoy what you have to say, but she doesn't really do the blog thing.

Well, I'm a day late, but "Hi". I'm mrissa's sister-in-law, and started reading after seeing you comment in her LJ and reading some of your posts to a karate community (don't remember which one anymore). I read via RSS so I read pretty much everything you post publicly, but that's why I don't comment much either.
