I. Hurt. All. Over.

Well, worst of all in my hamstrings, which I have been stretching like mad this week, and my core. Karate tonight was a lot of kicking, and I had to keep stopping to stretch out my hamstrings, which were cramping. And horseback riding stance punches, like this:

Horseback riding stance punches

Knees bent, punching straight forward. Hard. You feel it in your core, which meant I felt it in my surgical scars. Ow, ow, ow.

And I biked all the way both ways today, too.

Oh, well. At least [livejournal.com profile] pazlazuli said I did well. I know I have these muscles. I'm just reminding them that they're there and meant to used (as they have been used in the past), and they're kind of pissed about it, since I haven't been asking very much of them lately.

A bottle of Ibuprofen and a hot bath are in my very near future.

Oh god, horseriding stance. Proof that the world is not all good.

deserve it (ibuprophen and hot bath) for your improvement. I'm doing my best to make my life better (more exercise, less calories, more vegetables, etc.) but haven't hit on much except that the less calories thing does work, even if one is over 50...

I've never taken martial arts except Tai Chi (one set of classes) and am intrigued, but it may be that if I go to classes Tai Chi is the best. I've got too many owie old parts to want to try a hitting martial art.

Congrats on your sore muscles! Horse stance always get my quads firing. Worse yet is when the instructor insists that we perform 4-direction kicks after staying in horse stance for 5 minutes. Those are killer on the legs.

I remember how it felt to go back to martial arts after having my appendix removed. You've got my sympathies! It does get better pretty quickly, and I think that for me it actively helped the healing process by stretching the internal scar tissue so it didn't get all tight. But I remember being amazed at how many techniques really do come from the core.
