From [livejournal.com profile] lifehacker_rss: Mailbox Maps is Google Maps mashup that shows you the closest set of mailboxes and the pickup times at each so that you can be sure to get your package out on time.

All you have to do is enter your address. Mailbox Map quickly shows you the nearest mailboxes, and clicking on the mailbox icon shows you the pickup information.

This is a very quick test which will give you a rough idea of what your percentage of body fat is. According to this test, my percentage is 27%, 39.7 Pounds of fat and 107.3 Pounds of lean (muscle, bone, body water), so I have a little way to go. Healthy ratio for a Caucasian woman is 22%, but the average American Caucasian woman is at 32%.

Fairy doors

[livejournal.com profile] aome pointed out the fairy doors available for sale here:

For those interested, check out this delightful site about urban fairies, which started with the fairy doors of Ann Arbor, Michigan and then continued to acquire information about other fairy doors all over the world.

I find these rather delightful. Hmmm. Perhaps one will show up in my house soon.

Here's an intriguing site I plan to explore some more:
Open Culture gives you easy access to hundreds of free, smart podcasts for your iPod. Download them, synch them, and put that iPod to good educational use.
Audio books, foreign language drills, university lectures . . . oh yeah. Lots of good stuff here.

For those of you, like me, who are trying to get healthier (hey, all you SparkPeople!), I have found an interesting website called The World's Healthiest Foods. I have set up a syndicated feed for it, at [livejournal.com profile] whfoods. It has very detailed nutritional information on these foods, with recipes to suggest so you can incorporate them into your diet. Criteria for inclusion:

1. Most nutritionally dense
2. Whole foods
3. Familiar foods
4. Readily available
5. Affordable
6. Taste good.

Also you might find the Food Advisor on this site to be interesting, a survey you can take which suggests foods you might want to incorporate into your diet, based on your age, gender, personal lifestyle and individual health needs.

Interesting site. It is set up as a non-for-profit, to enable them, they say, to maintain an independent perspective on nutrition research. Worth checking out.

Google is launching a literacy program, pulling together its books, video, mapping and blogging services to help teachers and educational organizations share reading resources.

See the project at google.com/literacy and google.de/literacy.

From [livejournal.com profile] lifehacker_rss:
No time to read? Email service Daily Lit sends you a bite-sized chunk of a novel to your inbox every day.

Search for a book you'd like to read via email from an impressive list of classics in the public domain - like Gulliver's Travels or Moby Dick - and receive it in parts, one a day, at a scheduled time, via email. The message isn't too long and gives you the option to get the next installment immediately, or wait till the next day's scheduled time. Today I got part 1 of 145 of Wuthering Heights, and I'm already looking forward to the next installment. Great way to get a little reading in between the boss requests and v1@gr@ messages. — Gina Trapani
I've signed up for Moby Dick, a book I've always meant to read but never gotten around to reading. Taking it in little nibbles, I think, will help.

Fitday

My new Internet toy is Fitday. I signed up for an account. No, not a public one, because I don't need to tell anyone else how many cookies I am eating. It is very easy. You do have to give them your e-mail, but I queried, and they don't share it with anyone; the only reason that they have it is if you ever forget your password.

You plug the food you eat in and learn whether you are taking in too many calories or not enough, and it tracks whether you are meeting your nutritional requirements. They have lot of food pre-programmed, but you can customize your own foods you eat frequently. It is very easy to use, and I have learned an awful lot in the three days I've had it. I hope it will make me more mindful about my eating.

Best of all: IT'S FREE.

Recommended.

This is a cool site. If, like me, you hesitate to order clothing from the Internet, you can go here and try the clothing on a virtual model, which you can personalize to be exactly your size, so that you can see how it fits.

You may remember when I posted about this link, which shows a guy who does a funny little dance all over the world.

[Error: unknown template 'video']

I was going through some of my tagged entries and got curious about the guy. I found his website. He has a new dance video now, with even more locations, including some really far away places: Antarctica and WOW, what a location in Norway, and hey, [profile] bobhoweand [profile] bigstonehead, check out him dancing on Easter Island. His FAQ is interesting to read. You can add his journal to your friends page with the syndicated feed [profile] where_is_matt

Sorry to those on my friends list who will have to spork out their eyes after watching this. It's almost as bad as the deathless Ballad of Bilbo Baggins!

Gacked from [profile] lemonlye, who says: "Any moms, mom wanna-bes, people with brothers, anyone who loves boys being dorky, or who just wants to laugh, should check out this very touching Mother's Day video short. I hope my son makes something so nice for me some day. Hee." (PG-13 for language, I think.)

This makes me think of my sister Betsy, who has told me endless stories about the agony of getting her sons to stand still long enough to take a picture. Show this to the boys, Betsy. They'll appreciate it.

Hurrah! [livejournal.com profile] piccolo_pirate has posted pictures from the annual festivities here! She says she will let me know when more are posted at the website.

Because we've been talking so much lately about the need for both of us to introduce play into our lives.
