The Harry Potter Books in Wizard Rock
Jan. 6th, 2011 03:00 pmI've created a wizard rock set list which adheres pretty closely to the plot of the seven books, book by book. I chose a variety of artists I particularly like, that have done a good job of dramatically presenting various scenes or just the feeling the books evoke, through their lyrics and music.
( Here's how I'd tell the story of Harry Potter through Wizard Rock songs )
Your suggestions, additions, deletions? I'm probably relying most heavily on Riddleâ„¢ and Ministry of Magic, with a goodly dose of Harry and the Potters, Draco and the Malfoys, the Parselmouths, the Weasel King, the Remus Lupins, the Whomping Willows, and Oliver Boyd & the Remembralls.

Ministry of Magic's new album is out!
Dec. 13th, 2010 11:23 amHere's one of the songs ("House Song") on their new album which has just been released, Magic is Might. This one really made me laugh. Jason Munday of MoM and Alex Carpenter of the Remus Lupins are the Gryffs, Kristina Horner of The Parselmouths and John Noe of Potter cast are among the Slytherins, Luke Conard and Ryan Seiler (MoM) are the Ravenclaws, and Christian Caldera of Oliver Boyd and the Remembralls is the Hufflepuff. Order a hard copy of the album here or on iTunes here.
( Here's another song on the album, 'Don't Leave' )
Jason Munday did an interesting little informative video about the process of composing that song:

Twilight parody by three wizard rockers
Sep. 8th, 2010 01:05 pmFound out about this here. Alex Carpenter of The Remus Lupins, Jason Munday of Ministry of Magic and Kristina Horner of the Parselmouths offer this parody ("My Eclipse") of 3OH!3 and Ke$ha's "My First Kiss." The point being that as a role model, Bella frankly, well, sucks.
You can download the song here. ( Here are the lyrics )
Alex Carpenter has just released an EP of music for The Hunger Games, by the way, called Freedom in Panem. Download it here.

Fascinating tutorial on creating music
Mar. 5th, 2010 11:24 amHere's a fascinating little video done by Luke Conard (YouTube: LukeConard, Twitter: @LukeConard) of Ministry of Magic, explaining how he mixes music. He's working on a song for the second ALL CAPS CD (his joint project with Kristina Horner of the Parselmouths) titled "Bmin/E." (Kristina is on YouTube at italktosnakes and Twitter at @KristinaHorner). You can hear the song, "Don't Unplug Me," at the CD Order page here. I've been promoting his music for a long time, of course. Wow, it's fascinating to get a glimpse into the process of making it.
Remember that song I linked to awhile ago, Mrs. Nerimon by Kristina Horner (here on Twitter) of The Parselmouths?
Well, it was apparently such a hit that Kristina, together with Luke Conard (here on Twitter) of Ministry of Magic, have put together a new album called ALL CAPS (non-Wizard Rock music). Mrs. Nerimon is on the album. I've ordered my copy. With those two, I don't think you can go wrong. I'm sure there's someone on my friends list who'd probably enjoy the zombie songs.
Here's the Myspace page for it, so you can listen to several of the songs. Buy it here.

I found this oddly charming
Mar. 18th, 2009 12:59 pmThis is Kristina Horner (here on Twitter) of The Parselmouths, who apparently lost a bet with Alex Nerimon (Nerimon on Twitter):
I've always liked her singing. And yeah, yeah, I suppose this is bubblegum pop, and it's a joke, and as someone who's pushing fifty, maybe some might think I should be more of a cynical broad who has better taste. But heck, I like hearing a song that captures that innocent enthusiasm and wonder about being in love. (Yes, they're going out.)
Consider this today's blow against cynicism, okay?
Tell me if you like it, too.

Wizard Rock news
Jun. 29th, 2008 03:53 pmChristian Caldera of Oliver Boyd and the Remembralls has announced he's going to coming out with four EPs, one for each Hogwarts House. The Slytherin EP has been released and you can get it by ordering from his MySpace page, or you can get it from him at Portus, since he's going to be playing there. Judging from the one song from it he's got up on his player, "Flight of the Prince," I'm planning on getting it. (I loved his previous CDs).
Geez, Mark Wischkaemper of Marked as His Equal has announced he won't be coming to Portus because he has cancer. His prognosis is excellent, however, but I'll be very sorry not to see him there.
The Parselmouths have announced they're working on a new album, and I think the amusing "Voldemort Fangirl" which is downloadable at their MySpace page, will be on it. They've been working with Ministry of Magic to record their album which is a good sign (they appeared on Ministry of Magic's "Goodbye Privet Drive," which is just as awesome as I knew it would be).
